What if the TARDIS had landed in 1890’s alternate London?
In the Victorian era, police boxes were red, hexagonal, and cast iron. Now as I am melding past and future together, I chose to take the hexagonal shape and apply it to the familiar Mackenzie Trench design, keeping the iconic blue color, the overall lines, and the wooden construction (though I realize the actual Mackenzie Trench Metropolitan boxes were mostly concrete). I felt that having the shape be the only large alteration was particularly appropriate as hexagons have a serendipitous connection with Gallifrey.
I decided that adding gears, rivets, or any other such embellishments wouldn’t make much sense, for while the TARDIS is a vehicle, it shouldn’t look like one, and I couldn’t rationalize gears or rivets on a wooden police call box. Even in a steampunk London, most things would not have gears or rivets, so I decided to just alter the shape and add a few brass appointments.
Designed by me, Danny Ashby, and built with the help of my Outland Armour crew and SCAD.
