Grand Prize Winner: Time And Relative Dimension… Ice Shanty! by the Bull family of Waunakee, WI!

Wintertime in the Madison, Wisconsin area is colder than a cyberman’s knuckle! But with our time-traveling ice shanty and a bait-bucket filled with Jelly Babies, we made the most of it! Our Time And Relative Dimension Ice Shanty materialized one fine Sunday morning on Lake Monona, and we immediately set about fishing for bluegills and muskies. The view was amazing, as we could see Wisconsin’s state Capitol Dome. Our TARDIS was met with admiration by many of our fellow anglers, including a couple passing Doctor Who fans from Texas who helped us set up shop. Thanks to everyone for your vote, and GO PACKERS! (2011 Super Bowl champions!)

As we get ready to announce the winner of the Where’s The TARDIS contest, we wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who took part, whether you planned, crafted, and built your own TARDIS or browsed the entries and voted for your favorites.

The number of entries have been awesome and the variety of entries even more so. From TARDIS balloons and a TARDIS guitar to TARDIS kites and TARDIS desserts, Doctor Who has some of the most passionate and imaginative fans in the world.

We will be announcing the grand prize winner tonight during the BBC America premiere of the Doctor Who mid-season finale ‘A Good Man Goes To War’. Be sure to watch Saturday night to find out!

1st Runner Up: Nano TARDIS by Dale of Tulsa, OK!

The Tardis has gone to another time-space dimension, the nano-world. The Universe’s smallest Tardis was made at The University of Tulsa by the Nanotechnology Institute’s Micro and Nano Fabrication Laboratory. A beam of gallium ions within the scanning electron microscope was used to mill the Tardis on a human hair freeing the Doctor for his tiniest, but one of his most interesting adventures ever. Accompanying him on this adventure were Paige Johnson, the Nano- Lab Manager; Dr. Michael Keller, an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering, and Dale Teeters, Professor of Chemistry.

2nd Runner Up: TARDIS of San Francisco by Emilia of San Francisco, CA!

I had to make four prototypes before I could build the full scale model. It took about a month to draw up the cut map, make the pieces, glue them together and put together the electric bits. I finished the model in January but it took me a long time to get the photo at the bridge taken.

I enjoyed every step building my Tardis!

3rd Runner Up: T.A.R.D.I.S. - Twisted And Radically Designed Inflated Structure by Chris of Brewer, ME!

This Tardis or “Twisted And Radically Designed Inflated Structure” was constructed out of 250 balloons. Starting at Chris “Flip” Florey’s home and then finished in the lobby of the Bangor Public Library in Bangor Maine. It took him about 12 hours from start to finish. Flip has been an award winning balloon twister for the past 15 years.

In addition to the Tardis you might notice a balloon Dalek and a red Fez on Flip’s head in some of the photos. I believe this Tardis proves that the Tardis’ own chameleon circuit has a sense of humor from time to time. Materializing next to a balloon twister in balloon form is one fun way to make an entrance. Not some boring Grecian column or wing backed chair. Luckily no small children were hurt in the materialization.

All this week we are counting down the seven finalists in the Where’s The TARDIS contest with the grand prize winner revealed during the Saturday BBC America broadcast of ‘A Good Man Goes To War’. The grand prize includes all 47 years of Doctor Who *plus* an exclusive premiere screening in their hometown!

4th Runner Up: Pinewood Derby TARDIS by Jason of Uxbridge, MA!

Two TARDISES built to run in a pinewood derby for cub scouts. The first Tardis was overweight and the second smaller TARDIS ended up being made to actually run. It did come in first in one of its races. Although not really built for speed it does hold its own.

Also can you think of a better place to have a TARDIS? When i first had it there many kids were asking what it was (even a few parents) now I know if we do get the screening in our area many who go will be cub scouts. I think it would be pretty cool to turn a new generation onto The Doctor and his cub scout blue TARDIS.

That’s ok Jason — who needs to win every derby when you can travel all of time and space!

5th Runner Up: Relativistic Length-Contracted (felt) TARDIS and Doctor by Bat of Spring, TX!

The Doctor needed a little help finding his way around America, so we gave him a lift to the capital, Washington, D.C. In order for him to be inconspicuous, he traveled at close to the speed of light (relative to observers on Earth) and therefore he and the TARDIS appear much smaller than usual in these photos.

The Doctor had quite a nice time playing the tourist. He visited Mount Vernon, the Supreme Court, the Library of Congress, and the U.S. Capitol Building.

He did seem particularly interested in the Capitol- which makes us wonder if he knows something that we don’t… Could it be that aliens have infiltrated the halls of Congress? Thanks goodness the Doctor is keeping an eye on it!

6th Runner Up: Gingerbread Tardis by Alex of Marquette, MI!

The gingerbread Tardis is a Tardis made entirely of edible materials by my aunt and me during my winter break from University. Everything was constructed with homemade gingerbread and homemade icing, and decorated with homemade and gel icings, as well as m&ms, chocolate for the doctor’s suit and hair, and a gumdrop for the light.
